Service Premium

As part of the Military Covenant the British Government has paid the Service Premium to schools since 2011. For each child of serving personel schools receive £300. This is to be spent supporting these children as the government recognises that children of service families can need additional support due to mobility issues.

This year we have received £13,500 for 45 children from service families.

We have a number of Armed Forces families here at Caen Communit Primary. Rather then a blanket approach we look at each child and their respective needs so we can best plan for their learning and pastoral support. We have two TAs, Emma Williams and Sophie Williams (both with serving partners), who are our specific service family liaison staff who have a wealth of experience and are always happy to meet with parents. Last year we offered a Friday afternoon club for service families where activities and refreshments were laid on for children and parents. Currently we are not offering this as only one family felt that they would attend on a regular basis. We also ran a couple of specific events which culmanated in our Armed Forces Day celebration where Marines and members of the Army (parents and friends) came into school to run activities.
